The desire for self-expression through art and creativity has been an intrinsic part of cultures around the world since the dawn of humankind. Modern research has shown that embracing the arts offers much more than just a creative outlet, however. Arts education has been scientifically proven to enhance:

From a global perspective, this means supporting creative education can have a very real impact on the population’s ability to embrace social cohesion, nation-building, intercultural dialogue and collaboration. This is important in any country, but even more so in South Africa where historical division has left large socioeconomic and cultural gaps to be bridged.
From an employment perspective, the benefits of creative education are more immediate, and go far beyond the face value of having access to creative skills for marketing and other purposes. Employees with a background in the arts have been proven to develop more quickly in their roles, have superior problem-solving skills, are more adaptable, more disciplined and more open to constructive criticism.
From a future perspective, creative thinking is essential in the face of the 4th industrial revolution. As technology continues to blur the lines between the physical, digital and biological worlds, adaptability and constant upskilling are becoming essential survival skills. What better way to prepare our youth than to build the necessary creative neural pathways and instil a deeper love of learning through top-quality arts education.
